Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that Indonesia remains committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate changes as stated in the Paris Agreement.

“Indonesia remains [committed to] the Paris Agreement,” Kalla said at the Vice Presidential Office in Jakarta today, after meeting with Ambassador to Indonesia Jean-Charles Berthonnet, German Ambassador to Indonesia Michael von Ungern-Sternberg, and European Union Ambassador to Indonesia Vincent Guerend.

The ambassadors visited Kalla to ensure Indonesia’s commitment to the Paris Accord and follow up the climate change mitigation action plan.

According to Kalla, Indonesia’s commitment to Paris Agreement remains unchanged although US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the accord. Even without the US, Kalla believes that there will be issues with the Paris Accord implementation “in terms of carbon trading and others.”

Kalla claimed that Indonesia’s commitment to the Paris Agreement has been stronger. He revealed that there would be new agreements related to forest management in Kalimantan in the next few weeks.

Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya said that the international community supports Indonesia in conducting activities in relatively developed provinces, such as East Kalimantan.
