The SEARCA-established Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources, known as the University Consortium (UC), will hold its annual Summer School on 10–28 July 2017 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Dubbed as Sustainability Transitions 2017, this year's Summer School is part of the ERASMUS+ project aimed to institute a joint Master of Science in Food Security and Climate Change (MS FSCC) in UC members.

Co-organizing the Summer School are Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) of Indonesia, and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) of Vienna, Austria. This year's theme Integrated Agro-Forestry Farming Systems: a Transition to Food Security in a Changing Climate will be tackled through lectures, case studies, field visits, and group discussions.

The participants are 17 MS FSCC students, 6 students from SEARCA's International Development Assistance (IDA) partner universities, 8 from BOKU, and another group of MS students from UGM. The lecturers to the Summer School come from the different UC members and BOKU.

The Summer School has been a regular activity of the UC with the hosting being rotated among its members. The UC also conducts an annual graduate forum, collaborates on research projects, and provides student and faculty grants to its members. The UC members include Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) and UGM in Indonesia, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Malaysia, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in the Philippines, and Kasetsart University (KU) in Thailand. Tokyo University of Agriculture (NODAI) serves as Associate Member, while SEARCA is the Consortium Secretariat. This year, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) of Indonesia will be a new affiliate member.
